Stumbled upon awesome Math videos on youtube I wanted to share.
The first one completely baffled me. It illustrates that a good teacher makes the difference. Watch the whole thing and be amazed. Tweak a little to make it appropriate to your class. :)
Jill Mansergh teaches us multiplication facts using the stick (not what you think, haha)
And for the high school teachers...
I first knew about Math music videos through a cousin who had AP Calculus classes in the US. Apparently a term project is to make a music video about a topic. I chanced upon the vid on her laptop. Then again I saw such projects on the internet. I am sharing one of the nice ones here. Nope it's not my cousins, (only because I can't find hers on the internet. Haha

virtually base tens
Practically everything is going tech nowadays because of convenience. It seems counter effective though to turn tactile materials to "virtual" material, but it exists!
If it's up to me, I'd say go with the traditional materials and let the child use ALL of his senses in learning. But when the present generation seems eons away from how we were as kids, I say just go with what you see works.
My sharing today is on a great site ( ooopppss guilty as charged) on Virtual base ten blocks.
Anyways the computer program might give you creative ideas on how to this with your kids the 'tactile' way.
click on the picture to be redirected to the page. =)

wow! cool math game!
Learning in today's generation is both frightening and exciting. It's the dawn of an insanely huge amount of learning opportunities. A number of learning styles had been discovered. A lot of learning revolution is being made. It is actually overwhelming (if frightening is such a negative word). It's like standing in front of you is your education presented as a huge buffet of stuff. It's entirely up to you to take what you want, devour what you got and benefit or detriment from it.
It is equally as exciting though if you think about it. Especially in the point of view or disadvantaged learners as we. How many times have we wished we have all this when we were in school. We hoped our teachers had been as creative, and that everything is within reach.
I try to evaluate myself and I am currently at the point of thinking that maybe I wouldn't have survived basic education in this generation. I'd be totally distracted, be forever shifting interests. I'd greedily want everything I can have and self-control probably would be my biggest challenge. Haha.
I found this from a "resources sharing group" I joined a long time ago. It's a perfect example of how awesome learning is nowadays. It's very amazing too how well education fits any type of generation. The human mind is limitless. It adapts, which perfectly explains why humans stills holds that position of being superior in the animal kingdom.
I would want to play this. Even if it's content is way beyond important to me this day...and ep even as an adult...

blocks and cubes
I guess you have to expect that when I blog about educational toys and whatnots it would probably be a big WANT! Majority of the toys in the country are imports...so with that it meant a lot of what is in the internet is probably not available...especially the educational ones...haaayyy...
With that, a concept of an educational store in the country is swimming in my head for sometime...but I'm not a business person...not YET...so it'll probably stay in my head for sometime until i teleport it to someone that would make it real...
So on to my post...
My flavor of the moment manipulative are the cubes, blocks, and flats
These are the Dienes blocks
The unifix cubes
The golden beads
Of the three, only the golden beads are available in the country and sadly at an exorbitant price...:( Thus I cannot buy. But I can make!...hehe..that is if I have the time...which actually I don't.
These materials aids in teaching quantity, place value and values. I find this topic really fun, and I 'd expect my students to ace this and master it no sweat! Plus, I like them materials because they're so colorful hah!
so item#1,2,3 on my inventory would be these...=)
